I have a dozen 'once' perfect mature topiary box plants, now affected with box blight. I have tried three different treatments, Mancozeb,Copper Oxychloride and Phosacid with little success. I am careful to remove affected branches leaving gaping holes. Also collecting fallen leaves etc. I am in Australia, and have located a product in New Zealand that hopefully will save my plants - Kiwicare Super Spectrum, which contains the fungicide 'carbendazim' which is effective at stopping the fungus mycelium. This product also contains Mancozeb which is effective at inhibiting the germination of spores. I am yet to purchase the product and have emailed the Company in NZ for advice on outlets in Australia. Local (Australian) Nurseries do not stock it. Mike

Thanks for your observation Rino.

And indeed Sagina is great in our climate-zone but is rather fragile.

For those interested, here a link to a photo of <a href="http://ppperennials.com/catalog/catalog%20current/m/muehlenbeckia%20axillaris%20nana.htm" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Muehlenbeckia axillaris 'Nana'</a>.

Also see the remarks about Zone's on <a href="http://zen-garden.org/html/page_Planting.htm" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Plants and planting (Shokobutsu) in Tsubo-en</a>.

Sagina Subulata is very difficult to grow in Texas. It may stay good looking in the winter, but as soon as the heat of Summer strikes, this plant is doomed, no matter how much shade you provide. A substitute to moss in Texas can be Muehlenbeckia axillaris 'Nana'. This one is more tolerant of heat and drought, and it grows very fast too.

Hello Luigi.
I eventually sprayed it, in particular the inside, with a sulphur-based fungicide, the one I also use on Powdery Mildew. And the result is that it did not spread any further.
So I do not know for sure if it was Box Blight (the question mark in the post-title holds) but it gives the impression that it stopped whatever it was.

Some weeks ago I removed most of the dead wood, at least all the visible parts, and hope and pray that the holes will close with new growth.

I made some close-up photos after midoritsumi of three pine tree specimen.

As I cannot place them here in the way I would like, I have placed them in the original post.

Hi Anette, I do not have a close-op photo at hand but yes that is about the size I leave. But no more than that.
Note that some of the hard to reach candles I pinch but most of them I cut.
I'll see to make and place a close-up later.

And yes with regard to this work, Niwaki is my Bible so to speak !

Thanks for the post on Midoritsumi. I'm in the process with my 3 P. densiflora, and would love to see a closeup of the pinched branch tips. Niwaki recommends leaving 2.5 cm on P. densiflora. Is that how you pinch them?

You are vigilant, I don't think I've ever cleaned our sprinkler system, or trimmed around them at all! They still work great though. When we got our sprinkler system I did about 3 months research to find the most efficient one while staying within our meager budget. We settled on Orbit Irrigation, really great sprinkler systems, check out their website here: http://www.orbitonline.com/sprinkler-systems/02/
